Austen House is located in the Newton le Willows area in the borough of St Helens, and easily accessed via the A580 and the M6 motorway. There are two train stations in the area, one of which is close to the Home, along with a bus station situated within a few minutes’ walk from Austen House.There are two secondary schools in the locality, two primary schools and a further education college within walking distance. There is also a local leisure centre nearby, providing young people with a wide range of activities.
The Registered Manager Sarah Stead has a wide range of experience working in the care industry. Her previous work history is predominantly in the adult social care sector ranging from working with elderly care, adults with learning difficulties and mental health issues both in a community setting and forensic secure hospital. Sarah was employed at senior support worker level in her previous role in supported living.
Sarah joined the organisation in 2006, and is our longest serving staff member, and is qualified at NVQ level 3 CYP.
She was promoted to deputy Manager in 2012 and is currently in the process of completing Level 5 Diploma in leadership and management- children and young people. She has been the Registered Manager at Austen House since January 2016.
Sarah has experienced a variety of training and development opportunities as follows:
Team teach, food hygiene, first aid, safeguarding, child development and attachment, CSE, supervision, recruitment and selection, appraisals, leadership to management, leading a team, equality and diversity, decision making, mental health awareness, administration of medication, behaviour management, communication. Level 5 safe guarding.
